I BELIEVE LLOYD BROWN, AN AFRO-AMERICAN THAT PLAYED AT THE BLUE NOTE IN THE 60'S HAS PASSED ON. MAY BE THE SAME GUY THAT RECORDED WITH DEL SHANNON, BUT NOT SURE. KIM RUSH

Are you referring to the Lloyd that played with Danny Lewakowski on keys? Played at the Mouse Trap in the early 70's?

I know that Llyod Brown played at the Mouse Trap because I saw an old ad in the GR Press for him. Pretty sure this is the same Lloyd Brown that recorded with Del Shannon. Lloyd is no longer with us, I know that for sure, too.

Kim, I worked as the regular nightly bar-tender at the Mouse Trap about that time. Send me a copy of that old ad, you got my e-mail. Doug Taylor

The Lloyd Brown I remember sang and I believe also played drums with Johnny Kik in the band "The Checkmates". Lloyd had a wonderful voice which John beautifully complemented with his Cordovox which he ran into a Leslie speaker. He was an amazing player and made it sound as if it was actually a Hammond B3. Both Lloyd and John were genuine, down-to-earth and personable people. Lloyd would come in often to John's store "Kik'n'Assoc. Music" in Grand Rapids.

Hello, thank you for the info on Lloyd Brown. He recorded the very FIRST version of Del's "I Go To Pieces" before it was given to Peter & Gordon and became a Top 10 record. I have two versions by Lloyd, produced by Del Shannon. Lloyd Brown also recorded as "Dr Soul" on a 45rpm produced by Palmer James out of Grand Rapids. Also a good record!

Sad to hear that Lloyd is gone. Robin Perry and I bought the Mousetrap in the late 60's and hired Lloyd and Danny almost immediately. They played continuously until we sold the bar 3 or 4 years later. Lloyd could sing as well as anyone I have ever heard and was a true gentleman. I have attempted to find him several times over the years just to say "hello". Thanks for the info.
